Impact Speaking Lab’s trainings are grounded in neuroscience, speciﬁcally the Neuroscience of Conversations®¹.
Professionals in many ﬁelds are versed in a logical and fact-based approach to problem solving. Our neuroscientiﬁc basis speaks to those professional’s way of thinking powerfully, allowing them to easily understand, accept, and incorporate our methodology. Our approach also causes our clients to develop a greater understanding of others and how to impact and inﬂuence others’ views. They come to appreciate what it takes to alter someone’s thinking, feeling, and ultimately, action.
A speciﬁc and powerful element of our neuroscientiﬁc approach is that from the perspective of how the brain works, we train people on why people act the way they do.
The reality is that people do not act on what they know, understand, or even claim to believe. There are numerous examples of this: people know that speeding is dangerous, yet they speed; people know that they should spend money within their means, yet often rack up huge consumer debt.
What people do act on is the way in which they view and experience their situation and/or circumstances. When you know how to alter the way in which people view their situation or circumstances, you are able to inﬂuence their behavior naturally.
Why so many conversations are ineffective is that people get information, but nothing about their view shifts. Hence their actions remain the same.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODALITY
This is a completely distinct modality of learning that goes beyond merely allowing people to practice and receive feedback.
“Experiential learning is the process by which knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” (Kolb, 1984, p. 38). It incorporates the 4 distinct learning phases (blue squares) and the 2 distinct learning processes (cartesian axes) people must go through to get beyond mere understanding.
Understanding and received knowledge must be remembered to be applied. This is only partially effective when under pressure.
In contrast, the result of experiential learning is naturally altered performance, like balance on a bicycle. Once one learns balance through experiential learning, there is nothing to remember. One simply rides the bicycle. As a result of our unique approach, our clients naturally and reliably alter their performance.
AN ONTOLOGICAL APPROACH
Most professional trainings are delivered from an informational approach, i.e., they give people information and techniques as the means to altering behavior. This approach is moderately effective at best.
Our trainings are designed from an ontological approach. Ontology is a powerful philosophical discipline that examines being human, including how human beings act, perceive and interact. Our ontological approach allows our clients to be naturally conﬁdent, effective, and inﬂuential.
They gain direct access to what drives their actions and reactions, as well as the actions/reactions of others. They learn to perceive what is in the background of their relationship with the people they are speaking to, with themselves, and with the situation they are dealing with. By discovering this background domain, they gain control over the automatic ways in which they typically act, communicate, and interact. With this newfound control, they design relationships and contexts for speaking that lead to greater connection, trust, and effectiveness. They do not have to remember to apply techniques. Our approach unleashes their natural ability to be dynamic and inﬂuential.

MY TEAM MEMBERS HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH OTHER TRAININGS, WHAT MAKES THIS ANY DIFFERENT?
A: Our training is experiential and is grounded in neuroscience. We have found that most traditional training is more information based, thus great information is conveyed. However, when training is simply in the domain of information, one has to remember it to apply it, thus being less effective long term than our experiential method. We have created a framework that unleashes your employees’ natural abilities.
WHY DOES YOUR TRAINING TAKE 3-6 MONTHS?
A: Our trainings are not a one and done type training. Research shows that trainings that do not incorporate spaced learning and mixed modalities show little to no ROI after 90-120 days. In other words, they make no lasting impact.
We work with your teams over a 3-6 month period utilizing asynchronous learning, live interactive sessions delivered virtually or in person and cohort learning as well as implementation sessions because research has shown that this type of training sticks. Past participants report they continue to apply what they learned years after the training completed.
SINCE IT IS HIGHLY INTERACTIVE, HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE EVERYONE GETS THE MATERIAL AND ENGAGES WITH IT SUFFICIENTLY?
A: We utilize all learning modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) for all learning styles. We have an online learning management system to allow participants in the training to do some study on their own and for reinforcement. We have integration exercises that you will also utilize with your cohort. We work intensely in the live trainings and have you work together with the concepts. It truly is a lab.
MY EMPLOYEES NEED RESOURCES. WHAT DO YOU PROVIDE?
A: Everyone will be given a workbook with all the appropriate resources for their use both in the lab and in the future and everyone has access to an online learning portal where there are videos, worksheets and handouts to utilize. We do find that since the nature of our labs are so experiential, that the material is integrated into training participant’s thinking as well.
DO YOU PROVIDE SUPPORT SPECIFICALLY FOR EXECUTIVES AND MANAGERS (NEW OR EXISTING)?
A: For executives: We provide executive coaching that is customized to the executive’s needs.
For managers: We have specific manager trainings as well as we suggest the managers of teams go through the training with their direct reports. Additionally, we recommend managers take advantage of our executive coaching services.
